Have you ever wondered how salt reaches your plate? Since 1837, salt from Schweizerhalle (CH) has been extracted from salt meet the different needs of people. As an essential raw material for chemistry, salt has very early attracted chemical companies to the Basel region (CH).
Come discover how salt, buried in the depths of the Earth, is dissolved with water and then raised to area. You will also see how, thanks to advanced techniques, this brine (salt water) is evaporated so that the salt can crystallize.
The Rhine and the salt – these two components are an integral part of Basel. On the boat of the company BPG sailing on the Rhine, you enjoy the quality of service and a delicious meal before heading to the fascinating discovery of the salt world at the Swiss Salt Works. The visit of the Swiss Salt worksalways remains an unforgettable experience.
Program
Make your own way to Basle.
10:30 -Meeting point at the “Dreiländereck”, remarkable building located at the meeting point of the three countries (D, F, CH).
10:40 – Departure for Schweizerhalle locks with lunch on board.
12:40 – arrival at Schweizerhalle, about 5 minutes walk to the Swiss Salt works. Projection of a presentation film, visit of the evaporator hall, the dispatch center with the high rack warehouse, the final production and the warehouse. Passage through the Salzladen (gift shop).
13:15 – Visit of the salt production site – a trip from the sea to your table.
15:15 – End of the visit and return by your care.
