THE VIA SALINA TOURIST ROUTE
The Via Salina tourist route, running from Arc-et-Senans to Bern, via Ornans.
The Via Salina tourist route offers excellent possibilities for walking and cycling tours in the region referred to as the “arc jurassien”, located in the Franche-Comté region in France and the Cantons of Bern, Vaud, Neuchâtel and Jura in Switzerland. Nature and culture meet on this itinerary that runs from the Arc-et-Senans Royal Saltworks to Bern, passing by the saltworks of Salins-les-Bains, the birth-land of the painter Courbet in Ornans and the thermal centres of Yverdon-les-Bains. The historical salt routes of the Via Salina, offering a pleasant blend of well-being, history, remarkable landscapes and UNESCO sites, are suitable for walking at a leisurely pace as well as for more trained hikers.
THE TERRA SALINA TRAIL MARKINGS
In France, the itinerary covers some “GR’ trails (Grande Randonnée trails – National Rambling/hiking trails) marked in white and red, and some sections of ‘PR’ trails (Petite Randonnée – Small Rambling/hiking trails) marked in yellow. Stickers are placed on the trail marking panels for the Via Salina tourist circuit between Arc-et-Senans, France, and the Swiss border.
In Switzerland, the itinerary covers parts of the ‘Chemins de Randonnées Pédestres’ (Rambling/hiking trails) marked in yellow.
